Title: Running VCarvePro .txt files
Post by: ElderMartin on December 09, 2020, 04:10:23 PM
I had Mach3 and went to Mach4.

VCarvePro doesn't turn one's designs into a standard Gcode file.  It turns them into .txt files for Mach.  In Mach3 I copied and pasted into MDI and I could get it to run.

I'm attempting my first carving in Mach4 and it also didn't accept the VCarve file when trying to load Gcode.  It mentioned something about some macro failing.

So I tried the copy and paste method of the .txt file into MDI.  Nothing happens when I click the cycle start button.  I waited quite a while.

With help from this board I was able to home all three axes, and then I moved my spindle to an appropriate place to start the carving and zeroed out all the axes and they were green.  The slave axis of A is greyed out but is the last axis shown, and it stays red.  Does that matter?

I went to Machine Diagnostics and there was nothing lit up accept the 4 green lights for the four motors.

Any suggestions for this old newbie?

Update:

I even tried to load the old reliable Roadrunner gcode, but got the same error message:

"A macro failed to compile"

Have you done any custom macros?

Not that I'm aware of.

I did load a profile Warp9 supplied for me to run the G540.

I saw you commented on this one also.

I recommend contacting Warp9 and make sure you let them know which rev of Mach4 and which rev of the plugin you are using.
They may want you to change the rev of one of them.

Thank you.

I contacted Warp9 and they said that I merely needed to create a "Macros" folder inside my profile folder.  I guess it doesn't matter whether I am using a macro, but there has to be a folder for it.

It now recognizes the Roadrunner.
