Title: where is my calibration.....
Post by: coogrrr on September 28, 2007, 12:20:10 PM
I think I had an older rev but I thought I remembered that there was a spot in motor tuning where I was able to type in go 2inches then measure how far my machine really went and it would figure out how many steps it takes to get there. This would be a great addin if it is no longer available.

Please help

Coog,

I think what you are looking for is on the (Settings Tab) screen.
Right above the Reset Button on this screen you'll find (AXIS CALIBRATION - STEPS PER UNIT).
That will guide you.

Tom

Tom,
Thank you for the  prompt reply. I found that button and it is what I am looking for only it did nothing when I clicked it :( Do you know of a fix or how to get to the code another way?

I downloaded the older version 1.84 and installed it into a diff directory. The button works in that version so I used to get my numbers and then pasted those into the new version.    :D

Art can you fix this in the latest release please.   :-*

Coog it works fine for me in the latest version, maybe just your install is corrupt. Try installing it over the top of itself, make sure you have any custom macros, screens etc (if you have any) backed up just in case.

To calibrate you machine -

Have a look at the setting for the motors as they are set - or set them at a reasoanble figure to start with.

Move the axis by one inch on the DRO , measure the ACTUAL movement of the axis.

The number of steps per inch is equal to the number of steps the machine is set to, divided by the distance the axis actually travelled.

Bear in mind stepper motors are usually 1.8 degress - i.e. 200 steps per rev,(multiplied by motor settings - e.g. 1/8 step or whatever)  multiplied by any step down you have to your axis, multiplied by the number of turns per inch - so it is usually a round figure - in my case 64,000 - so if your answer above comes out to 63,995 - give it the benefit of the doubt.
