Title: Russian Cross
Post by: ergoman on September 16, 2007, 09:14:27 AM
Here is a 4" tall Russian Orthodox cross I've made from Cherry wood. There are some problems I've since corrected with the setup. I was having some backlash issues that are gone with the addition of anti-backlash lead nuts. Also, the cutter I used for this wasn't sharp enough. Tiny cutter at 0.0512" single spiral cut flute works good as a wood router.

Thats cool. Looks very authentic. Are you sure you didn't just vandalize some church building?

Thanks much! It's the first thing I've made. A 4" tall copy of a 3' tall cross from an Orthodox monastery just north of Pittsburgh, PA. They would have noticed if I swiped the original... but this way, I can have my own little cross and no body gets in trouble. The original was done free hand with a router. That took lots of skill. Thanks to AutoCAD LT, LazyCAM, and Mach3 - mine looks even better. Thats the amazing thing about CNC... you can actually make a copy that is better than the original!

Here's another one. The words on it are ZOE and PHOS or in the Greek language: Life and Light. It measures 3" by 3" by about 3/8" thick. Thanks for the encouragement! Happy cutting everybody!
