Title: Mach3 and UC100 and Windows 10 64bit
Post by: Ray on March 01, 2019, 07:37:03 PM
After about 150 hours of trying this Input/output after this Input/output and this Input/output and restarting Mach3 again and again, it seems to me that the UC100 Motion Controller, Mach3 and Windows 10 64bit does not work.  If anyone can show me how it may work for sure, I am all about it.  Otherwise I chalk up buying the UC100, C84 Adapter, C83 Opto Isolator Board, IDC26-IDC26 Ribbon Cable plus a couple other ribbon cables as a waste of money and they go in my junk box.  I have also emailed cnc4pc this information, hoping maybe they have an email address of someone that has it all working together that I can contact and go over what I need to do.  My C83 Opto Isolator Board when powered up has 4 out of 5 input LEDs lit up.  Input 13 LED does not light up.    I have also emailed cnc4pc this information.

Well, that is my rant for the day, week, month, month and a half. :( :( >:( >:(

That's a warranted rant, Ray. Hopefully they'll get back to you with some useful info from cnc4pc. I've heard good things about their support.

Outside of Vista, Windows 10 anything is the worst system for Mach3. Install it all on a Windows 7 Pro 64 and it will work.

I have an old desktop with XP and a parallel port, I think I will try that and say to heck with the UC100 Motion Controller.

No, don’t use the parallel port cable, just load up your Mach3 and use the same setup. There is a 400 something that works on Ethernet that is what I used. I Am Not an expert but it worked for me.

I used this with Mach3 and on Windows 7 Pro - UC400ETH ethernet motion controller   CNC Drive has a auto configure wizard on their website and they also sell the UC100.

I did try my old desktop with XP and Parallel Port (after blowing it out with my air hose).  Downloaded Mach3, Parallel Port Drivers, configured my motor outputs and tuned the motors.   Boom da da boom.... worked like a champ.     Put that UC100 motion Controller and the other stuff I got from cnc4pc in the "maybe try it again later" box with a note (UC100 DOES NOT WORK WITH NOTEBOOK WITH WINDOWS 10 64 Bit).

"UC100 DOES NOT WORK WITH NOTEBOOK WITH WINDOWS 10 64 Bit & WINDOWS 7 x64" was what I read from someone at CNCZONE weeks ago. He said that only UC300 or UC400 will support x64 OS.
I am still wondering whether that is true.
OR it may be CNCDRIVE's trick to get people to use UCCNC instead of Mach3/Mach4.

Perhaps only a cheaper "USB motion controller" from China will work with MACH3 & WINDOWS 10 64 Bit & WINDOWS 7 x64???

As far as Windows 10 goes, I know some folks are using Mach4, but the Acorn controller is made to work with it.  Not just any Win 10 but what they spec. YMMV.

(UC100 DOES NOT WORK WITH NOTEBOOK WITH WINDOWS 10 64 Bit).

This is not true. While I use and test many motion controllers in a professional setting, I only use the UC100 with a Win10, 64-bit laptop on my own time. I have successfully completed several small projects with it. If you would like help troubleshooting your setup, shoot me a ticket at support.machsupport.com and I'm happy to help you work through it.

All motion controllers should work with a 64 bit OS. It's only the parallel port that will not.

That is a link to a .NET update that needs to be installed when using XP. It's NOT saying that the UC100 is XP only.

Gerry are you running the UNCNC program and interface on Windows 10?

Thank you.

But I was skeptical because the .net version they are using is ONLY version DOTNET 2.0.
Windows XP SP3 supports up to DotNet framework 4.0.
Windows 10 x64 now support up to Dotnet 4.72.

Yes, and Mach3 as well with the UC300-ETH.

XP does not natively support any version of .NET, so it needs to be installed, even for 2.0.

XP does not natively support any version of .NET, so it needs to be installed, even for 2.0.

Windows 10 Creators edition & later (new installations) will preload DOT net framework 4.72 that has an SDK that will not support applications written for DOTNET 2.0 natively anymore.
That is why I was skeptical about UC100 that seems to have software written for the very old DOTNET 2.0.

Dotnet 4.72 must be uninstalled. Dotnet 3.51 enabled at control panel, then Dotnet 4.72 reinstalled offline to get window 10x64 working with DOTNET 2.0 applications.
TOO MUCH HASSLE for non IT professionals.

Again, that's only required for XP. The UC100 was developed many years ago, when almost all users were using XP, and .Net 2 was likely the current version.

You don't have to do anything to use the UC100 in Windows 10, except install the Mach3 plugin.

Personally, I would not buy a UC100 today, unless you want the simplest swap from a parallel port.
Both the UC400ETH and UC300ETH offer far more functionality, and much better noise immunity (due to ethernet), for only a bit more money.

Just didn't work for me for some reason.  The UC100, cnc4pc C83 Isolator Board,C84 Adapter and various cables all bought from cnc4pc.com are packed in the box I got them in from cnc4pc.com, taped shut and placed in the loft of my workshop.

I do appreciate all the help I received from this forum, Mach Support, Arturo Duncan from cnc4pc.com, Jeff at Xylotex Support and the gentleman from CNCDrive.com     Tons of emails back and forth and posts after posts on forums.  I just didn't get it.     I am happy just to get everything going again using the old XP desktop with parallel port.

Thanks everyone,

Ray

Just got the UC100 to Gecko G540 using Mach3 on Microsoft Surface Pro2 running win10 64bit with no issues.  Not gonna be my actual computer to run my machine but wanted to see if it worked.  The only difference I found is that I need to hold the shift key when jogging.  Hope this helps clarify the rumors.
