Title: Mach3 threading problems
Post by: gmoran1469 on March 01, 2019, 12:06:56 PM
I am running a Patriot Shopmaster VFD and I am trying to do some lathe threading. I am running a canned threading cycle and I have the spindle setup to use feedback sync via a magnetic sensor on the spindle. I have verified that Mach3 is reading the spindle speed correctly via sTrue and a digital tachometere to verify the reading. When I go to start the canned threading cycle the machine moves to the starting position, begins to move into the work and stops shortly before it does any cutting, almost as if it is waiting for some type of sync or input. It does NOT do this when I disable the feedback sync mode for the spindle but when I disable that setting it does not cut the thread correctly. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it? I can provide any other information necessary (I hope).

Here is a video of what is happening

Something I noticed while using the turn diagnostics is that the threading data shows 1.#INF for the locked rpm, current rpm variation, and highest variation during thread.

I can't find any information on "1.#INF" other than another thread where someone is having the same problem. I think I am on the right track here but I need more input from someone who would know more about this. I find it odd that nothing is throwing any type of error or anything to show me something is wrong or out of sync or anything. The program just stops and waits.

Problem solved. Mach3 must have a license in order to use spindle feedback threading. You would think there would be a pop-up or some type of error that says "You are in DEMO MODE. You cannot use this fuction in DEMO MODE."

Yes you need a license in order to do threading. Note also to "NOT" use the Turn Diagnostics plug in. Also manually set the VFD rpm. Have A read of Threading On The Lathe - Mach 3 Turn.

You don't need to manually set the RPM. I've got it threading just fine while allowing Mach3 to control the RPM. The turn diagnostics is what helped me figure this out.
