Title: Yeah I know Im lazy
Post by: guynamedbathgate on August 09, 2007, 03:45:13 PM
Im looking to gather the parts for a 9x20 lathe conversion. quite frankly I'm too lazt to build my own mounting hardware for the motors and Im going nuts finding anyone that makes a hardware kit for mounting some steppers to a lathe. I want to use a timing gear settup so I can gear things down a bit. i found one guy who advertises a kit. but sais he isnt making the kit right now. this is the link.

anyone know of anyone making something similar to this. In the USA preferably.

Thanks anyway.

I picked this up as I looked down the posts - what are you wanting - someone to do the job for you ??

Actually fitting the motors to my Warco lathe ( 5 ins throw steel turning with milling head) turned out easier than I thought.

I made a bracket to fix the motor to the lathe - a toothed belt drive (5mm pitch x 9mm wide). I used a 3 to 1 step down because i didn't need the speed, just the power. I did all three fittings in a day. Motors are 220 Ncm.

heh yah dont make me feel bad.
It's just Im going to add ball screws and I just didnt want to mess with machining the ends myself and messing with making a bracket with thrust bearings and all that jazz if I didnt have too. I figure I could just buy a X Y kit for a miny mill and adapt there brackets to suit my needs. but its not that Im lazy its just that I only have so much time and I have too many projects going at once. I just streamline where i can.
anyone got any recommendations on a bearing arrangement and even a good supplier for such an project. any guidence is apreciated as always
