Title: Can't open Mach3
Post by: LerninCNC on June 30, 2018, 01:01:24 AM
For some reason I can not open Mach3.  I uninstalled then reinstalled, still no luck.  I also uninstalled the latest W10 update.  Tried opening it as administrator, didn't open.  Was running fine for more than a year on this computer until a couple of days ago.

Download and install the latest version from the Machsupport website. It has a patch for the latest Windows 10 updates.

Thanks.  That did it.  When I reinstalled a couple of days ago I went to FTP Downloads and selected Mach3 v062.  Evidently that file isn't compatible with my computer.

The latest Windows 10 update stopped all versions of Mach3 from working. The one on the machsupport was patched to allow it to work with the latest Windows update. It's the only version that will work with the current versions of Windows 10.
If you have your PC connected to the internet, there are no guarantees that Mach3 will continue to work with future Windows updates.

So it may be time to consider an alternative to Mach3 for the future.

Or keep Mach3 and switch to Windows 7.

Cheers

If you go the Windows 7 route, be sure to disable Windows updates, as Mach3 won't run in Windows 7 either if it's got the latest updates.

I am running W7 on my machine computer and no problems there.  My problem was with my W10 laptop that I use for setup work at night.

Yeah, my fault: I should have added 'and totally and permanently disconnect the PC from the internet".

Cheers
