Title: Mach3 configuration for EmcoF1 mill
Post by: sharpshooterser on March 30, 2018, 10:35:48 AM
Just assembled everything, and went on to try out the Mach3 as a running software. But, there are some hiccups.

I am using a ST-V2 bob, M542T drivers and some compatible motors. Also, I left the stock DC main spindle motor on it, and got a digital HX-SXPWM-A Pulse-Width DC motor speed controller from eBay. Bob is powered by independent 24V power supply.
Everything seems to be connected properly, I used shielded cables for driver/stepper connecting, but there is a problem...
Steppers are running as they should (configured ports and pins, and tuned them not to stall etc), but when I try to run the main spindle motor, its either not responding (depending on how do I check or un-check the active low setting) or its responding, but I get some movement on Z axis too (stepper movement is minimal, and spindle motor sounds really bad). If I change a setting for output signal, spindle motor works fine, but then I loose the stepper movement in any direction.
What could be the cause of this?
Thanks

here are xml files (I hope Mach3 saved them) - 4 different scenarios - name of the file gives the description on whats happening

i had a look to your posted profiles.

Looks like in None of them a spindle is configurated.

can you please post some Screen shots of your Setting (ports&pins)

is it this BOB:

you have ?

Thank you, I will, as soon as I get to the shop, and make them. I have no internet connection there.

these setting seemed to work... and yes, thats the board.

and with these (after I moved the power cable of the spindle motor away from the inner 25 pin cable) I got OK results (no lag or interference). but, if I turn on the relay (with active low setting) I get bad response on axes, and barely constant movement on the spindle motor. and I need the relay for changing directions. I lost any idea what settings did I try all these days before (and I failed to write them down as I should)
also, I am clueless how to setup the spindle base freq. and minimum pwm - my motor has max 4000 rpm (and I forgot the teeth number on pulleys)

Hello,
by comparing your settins to the Manual,
i noticed, that the configuration for ENABLE1 and OUTPUT1
are twisted.

ENABLE1 should be pin14
OUTPUT1 should be pin 17

you have it the other way round,
would explain a couple of things.

I did try it like in the manual, and that isnt working as it should, thats why I tried the other way around, and got some decent results

you wrote you Need the relay for changing direction of spindle,
but in the Setup you have output1 for CW an CCW, so the
relay will Switch anyway.

in a first step
-i would try to use factory Setting
-set output2 for CW in spindle Setup
-use M4/M5 in MDI to get the relay working first

OK, I will try that! Thanks!

if you have a multimeter try to get first the signals on the BOB (relay and 0-10V Output)
working without any spindle connected.

my God.....I accidentally realized that I have to supply 5V to the board also......and that solved the problem.... for now.
