Has anyone managed to control a SmoothStepper Ethernet via a Virtual machine?
IE: Linux host with XP VM.

I want to know too!

Glad you bumped this Roger.
I'm a Linux user but use Windows VMs from time to time.
It would be handy to not have to instal Windows if I can avoid it.
On top of that, then I can have a 'Mach OS" image that I can load easily onto other computers if I want.
I'm about to order an ethernet SS so eventually I will let you know the result.
My bet is that it WILL work. Fingers crossed ;)

It will NOT work if you try to use the custom LPT driver, as that is totally Windows XP oriented. Fair enough. But if you make no use of the LPT driver ... enquiring minds ...

I know that my Windows VMs can access the internet via the Linux ethernet connection, so I cant see why it wouldn't work.
But yes, would never consider trying parallel port Mach for many reasons,

I just tried installing Mach in Linux under the latest Wine and its installed and can even load the Road Runner Gcode.
Looking forward to seeing if it will drive a Smooth Stepper.
