Title: Touch plate problems and accuracy
Post by: kharrisonkevin on December 16, 2017, 07:25:31 PM
Hi all. I need some help. I have 2 touch plates. 1 corner finder which works great and 1 fixed touch plate. The fixed touch plate, the tool rapids down and hits the plate, stops but does not retract to slowly come Dow for a second touch off. I have to reset mach3 and manually retract it. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas what is happening as the corner finder works as it should.
The other issue I am having is my machine measures correctly near the home switches but but no where else.

Are there any messages displayed when it stops?
What version of Mach3?
What macro are you using?
Are you using the parallel port? If not, which motion controller?

You didn't answer the most important question.
What macro?

I am new to cbc work. Where do I look to find out. Where is it. Some times it works and sometimes it doesn't.  I just tried it and it worked. I have noticed that when I run a g code that 1 time out of 3 times it will cut properly with no problems but i go through alot of wood.

May I suggest you read the manuals and also watch the available videos.

MAch3 does not have a touch plate macro by default, so you had to add it at some point.

Why do you want or need a touch plate?  Set up the Homing correctly, raise the Z jog over the to  starting point, lower Z until the tool is at your zero and Zero in the display?

Why do you want or need a touch plate?

Because it's faster, easier, and more accurate.

Thanks for the reply. I'm also having a issue with the slaving of my a to my y axis. When I Mill in climb milling the Gantry wants to go out of square causing me to loose accumulated steps. but when I do conventional milling it works perfectly.

I have a Chinese 6040 router purchased from Automation Technologies and it came with a wonderful PDF user manual that tells how to set up the touch plate. You do need to copy and paste the VB Script into the button for the AutoZero.  The Script is in the documentation.  I suggest reading the instructions that came with your machine.

Sounds like you may have mechanical issues, causing binding, or your velocity and/or acceleration are set too high.
Also, make sure that ALL the settings for the master ans slave are exactly the same.

I've done all that. I installed the script. It was working fine but now it isn't. As for way y axis ways there is no binding. If you unhook the rack you can push it with 1 finger from 1 end to the other with no problem.  There isn't 1 tight spot in it at all. It almost seems like I have 1 lazy motor but they are both the same and new

A broken wire or loose connection to the stepper motor or power supply can cause it to fault out / lose steps.
