Title: Mach3 how to manually moving x axis or y axis very fast
Post by: ionapostol on September 10, 2017, 03:42:20 AM
Hi,
I have some parts to cut from styrofoam and after that is done i want to move hot wire to origin manually (arrow keys)but the speed is very slow.
How can I increase speed? I look everywhere but with no luck. I don't want to change settings in motor tunning because after that I lose calibration .
Please help .
Thanks

Hi,
sounds like the jog rate is set too slow.

Another way to do it is MDI:
G0 X0Y0    will cause the machine to move at its rapid rate to the current 0,0 co-ordinate.

You might experiment with G28 as well, it returns the machine to predetermined co-ords, usually 0,0,0 but via a location, usually set
for the wire/spindle/tool to the workpiece and clamps etc.

I press tab and new window pop up and here I change the value but the speed is the same.
I don't want to use goto some coords, I just want to move fast to some location manually.
Is there a way just with arrows or from jog window?

Do NOT use the shift key to put jog into rapid! There is a known bug that causes many machines to randomly take off and run without stopping until it crashes. Happened to me while showing my grandson how to use the machine and then he was too scared to try any more. Smashed the part, moved the vise, broke the tool off. My machine is pretty quick with 300 ipm rapids.

Ok, but where to setup rapids speed , I tried alot...

Hi,
the rapid speed is part of the motor tuning settings. The Velocity setting on the motor tuning page is the fastest that axis can travel.
When you move at G0 or 'rapids' rate it moves at the maximum velocity of that axis. So beyond setting the motor tuning you don't need
to set anything else.

When I cut using gcode and F200 in gcode is moving fast but when I move manually the speed is very low....

I think I'll create another profile with "fast speed"settings and when I need to move fast I'll use it...

Hi,
you don't need another profile.

When cutting use G1 .....F200 and the machine will cut at 200mm/min.
When traversing use G0.... and the machine will move at the maximum speed it can according to your motor tuning.

Hi,
look in the Mach3 manual:

Quote
6.2.5.1 Hotkey jogging
There are three modes. Continuous, Step and MPG which are selected by the Jog Mode
button and indicated by the LEDs.
Continuous mode moves the axis or axes at the defined slow jog rate while the hotkeys are
depressed
The jogging speed used with hotkeys in Continuous mode is set as a percentage of the rapid
traverse rate by the Slow Jog Percentage DRO. This can be set (in the range 0.1% to 100%)
by typing into the DRO. It can be nudged in 5% increments by the buttons or their hotkeys.
This Slow Jog Percentage can be overridden by depressing Shift with the hotkey(s). An
LED beside the Cont. LED indicates this full speed jogging is selected
Step mode moves the axis by one increment (as defined by the Jog Increment DRO) for
each keypress. The current feedrate (as defined by the F word) is used for these moves.

I read that but no matter what I do the speed is low.
I think I'll make another profile but with settings for speed. When I need to move fast I'll use that profile... :( ???

Hi,
what is the 'Slow Jog Speed' DRO reading at the moment? It should be 100%. You can change it by highlighting the DRO and typing in 100
followed by <enter>.
Make sure you are in continuous jog mode.
What velocity settings have you made on you motor tuning pages?
Does a G0 MDI move actually result in a maximum speed traverse?

Hi,
that's good info. What are your natural units? I see for instance that the velocity setting for both axes is 226. Sounds right for inches but way slow for mm.

On the second last screen shot it shows the main page but with the feedrate override of 6 units. I think that 6 is a default setting for Mach but is very slow.

On the Config/General Config... in the second column near the top is a box of controls called 'Start Up Modals'. In the text box 'Initialisation String' please
add F226 <enter> and restart Mach. Does this make any difference?

Sorry for my late reply but I was busy with something else.
Yes the units are mm. When I'll go to my cnc location I'll try what you say. What will be right speed for my mm's.
I use TB6560 driver for motors.
I noticed that when I try to put F350 in my g-code the speed won't go faster...seems like the F200 is faster it can go.

Hi,
the reason that your machine cannot go fast is that you've set the maximum speed at 226mm/min which is very slow.

The first and second screen shots you posted show the X and Y axis velocity to be 226mm/min. This is the maximum speed Mach will try to drive
your machine, I think it should be something like 2000mm/min.

When you are cutting you use G1 codes which operate at F********* speeds, where ********* can be up to the maximum for that axis, if you take my
suggestion 2000mm/min. When traversing you use G0 codes which always go at maximum speed, 2000mm/min. When jogging in Cont mode
the machine will move at a percentage of maximum speed.

You need to read the manual, this is basic setup stuff...
Quote
5.5.2 Setting the maximum motor speed
Still using the Config>Motor Tuning dialog, as you move the Velocity slider you will see a
graph of velocity against time for a short imaginary move. The axis accelerates, maybe
runs at full speed and then decelerates. Set the velocity to maximum for now. Use the
Acceleration slider to alter the rate of acceleration/deceleration (these are always the same
as each other)

Go to the Artsoft site and download the manual for Mach3 operation and read it, then read it again...and again.

Hi Craig, :-[
I think I was in time crisis and I took it on the short road...but the long road is always the answer :)

Thank you
