Title: Some quick projects for the kids and grandkids
Post by: Jammerm on June 03, 2017, 04:41:26 PM
Just a few quick cutouts I've been working on. The turtle i cut out and then shaped and sanded by hand. I hope to cast it in bronze and/or silver soon.

Thanks Tweakie!  8)

The Tardis is a 4" disc like a cup coaster. I wanted to be able to read the words and had to try it several times before it worked out. I have some hardwood to try out, this is all Basswood except the Alyssa plaque, it's pine.
My wife picked out some Purpleheart and then I found out it's one of the hardest woods. Should be fun.

I love them! The "Don't tread on me" is my favorite I think.  :)

Yeah, purpleheart is hard. You ever work with any ebony? It's dense but machines really nice.

Thank you. I've never tried any Ebony. I usually have local woods like Oak and maple, but I'm not much of a wood worker. It's tends to frustrate me. I'll need to get some new bits and put the big router back on the CNC, then I'll give it a try. There are quit a few woods harder than Purpleheart but I can't pronounce most of them. :D
I'm going to try some scraps of Padauk first, it's not as hard as the Purpleheart but it's harder than anything else I have.
