Title: Trying to get 2nd parallel port card working, need help!
Post by: mbwittig on June 14, 2007, 01:30:50 PM
I bought a parallel port card from Jameco and put it in the PC. The CD says PCI16C550 (NETMOS)

It installed to windows fine and shows up in the device manager as NETMOS PCI ECP Parallel Port LPT2
It lists the following under resources:

Input/Output Range: A800-A807
Input/Output Range: AC00-AC07

There are no errors showing in device manager.

When I go into Mach3, I checked Port Enabled under Port #2 and entered 'a800' which turns into '0xa800' when I go back and check it.

When I change the step port and dir port to 2 instead of 1 in the Motor Output tab, and move the parallel port cable to the card port, I cant get any movement from the CNC.

I'm using a Rutex R2110 motherboard with R2000 drives, but I am guessing this makes no difference as from what I understand the parallel port is being used output-only for the step and dir.

Anyone have any tips for trying to debug what is going on, or perhaps can recommend somewhere to buy another parallel port card to try?

have you rebooted?
i just went thru this not with a netmos but another brand sunex  . after entering the address, it worked fine. have you checked the diagnostics , try setting the pins for an input of a limit switch, or an mpg. if the port is working you will see the leds lighting up.

JUst to make sure those are zero's correct????

You might also want to test the port by hooking a printer to the port2 to see if it works.

Not sure about the ECP port type??? Ill check on it.

Hi

I think you need to access the machine bios and disable Plug and Play auto-configuation.
Then install the parallel port and then add the driver software.

Hi,
I have similar problem with LPT. As I set the address in device manager, I didn't check it at the bios settings. I have lost few hours until I saw that the address at bios differs from the same at the device manager.
Cheers

I have the same problem now. I have lpt3 netmos card. My address is different tho. E800- E807, And it is constantly set to ECP,

I am hooking up this to turn on hydraulic motor; to control spindle lock and gear selection.

I was wondering if you got this figured out?

I am also wondering if it would be best to use the enable, or output leds? does it matter?

I also am have trouble getting the 6 axis stuff in mach 3 2.00.

I also wish I could find examble VBscript on new buttons that would turn on one led and turn off another.

Any help would be greatly appriciated. ty jeff8451@sbcglobal.net

try deleting the driver for your onboard com port and rebooting. It could be the boot sequence.generlaly you should try to buy a card that has the same chip thats on your motherbard. windows does not like different drivers for the same type of devices
