Title: Simple MPG hookup to Mach3
Post by: williecnc on June 14, 2007, 09:11:47 AM
What is thi simplest way to conect an MPG to Mach3
I have a HP HEDS-5500 H14 encoder with 5 pins.
Do I need some form of interface or can this be done directly through
my Hobby CNC PRO board.

Thanks

Hi, Bill

Gnd and 5 volts, Set up Config, Ports & Pins, Encoder/MPG's, Enable "MPG 1", Assign Ports and Pick Pin #'s for A & B inputs.

Your encoder count may be high, But you can use counts/unit to adjust it, Anyway it's a start, The 5th wire is probably "I" index not used.

Tab Key, Jog Mode select MPG, Alt A select Axis.

Hope this Helps, Chip

Hi Chip,
Thanks for the response.
I checked the pin specs on the encoder and yes there is, 0v, 5v, A, B, * pins
I have made the housing and the wheel has 50 detents.
The encoder is HP HEDS-5500--H14.
I will install 3 buttons on the control panel for changing Axes and use key grabber to activate them.
CNC is complicated enough so I use the K.I.S.S principle where possible.
