Title: G code OK, but cutter does weird things!
Post by: nick2 on November 16, 2016, 11:04:21 AM
Hi there,
I seem to have two problems.
Firstly when I start cutting, the end mill comes in at an angle (see picture).
Also, only on two jobs, the end mill goes off the tool path (see picture).
Ref the first problem, someone else on this forum had the same problem and resolved it by adjusting the CV to angles >87 degrees. I have done this but with no luck.
The G code is OK as I have tried it on a friend`s machine.
Hope someone out there can help, as I need this to produce new products.
Thanks.
Nick

If the g-code is OK, then perhaps the settings on YOUR machine are a problem, or maybe your machine has problems.
I would look at motor speed and motor acceleration, and I would then try machining a circle in some scrap. Circles can be wonderful diagnostics.

Cheers

Hi Roger,
I think I have solved the problem.
I place the cutter 1mm away from the final toolpath, and then apply cutter compensation.
The lead in should be on a straight part of the tool path.
I do this for every different feature, and it seems to be working OK.
Thanks for your interest.
Regards
Nick

Roger, this was resolved at CNC Zone.
It was a G41/G42 issue.

Leaves me wondering why it worked OK on a friend's machine then. I must look it up on CNCZone.
Cheers
