Title: Lagun KneeMill Mach4 Pokeys Retrofit
Post by: TDAY on April 12, 2016, 08:51:26 AM
Hello all,
Got another project at work. Retrofitting an old Lagun knee mill that has done more sitting than running in its life. The old Westamp amplifiers were the main issue. Its got an old Autocon Dynapath Delta 20(anyone want it;) that will not come out of fault now. So boss opted to retrofit it. ;D Iam using a Pokeys57E , CNCdrive servo drives and same unknown servos that are on machine. These servos where originally set up with an tachometer. I had a BEI encoder, so i made an adapter for it to bolt to servo and had to machine down housing height where the TACH was bolted. After some messing around with the settings of servo drive i got a test run on the Y axis....wow...never heard these motors run so quiet and smooth, with the old setup they used to have a super high pitch that would drive you nuts!

Does anyone know the protocol for fusing Servo Drives, Power supplies  and such? I have been in several industrial cabinets and some are fused and some are not. Do you need to fuse the incoming DC voltage to a servo drive? And should the DIN rail power supplies be fused on the AC input, DC output or both?
Any input much appreciated.
Thanks,
Troy

I can't comment on DC servo drives, but I'd be inclined to replicate whatever the original setup was.

Most DIN rail supplies only need fused on the input, as if they're switched mode supplies, the outputs will have inbuilt protection. Usually the manuals will give you suggested fusing.

I really like your posts TD.  Way above my level of CNC tinkering!  I enjoy the conversion project threads & seeing how it's done.  I went onto your website & spent some time there.  Thanks for taking the time to put it together.

Having said all that, :) could I ask one small favor?  Could you resize your pics?  Either that or can someone please clue me in as to how I might view these pics without painfully scrolling them around on a 1024x768 screen?

Can anyone give me a basic walk threw of configuring a external push button to work as a Cycle Start in Mach4 and Pokeys 57E?
Thanks,
Troy
