Title: Changing processor speed

Will a change in computer processor speed affect Mach 3 in any way? I have an AMD XP1900 now and may change that to an XP2800. and have the machine and software set up and working well. Wondering about the timing or anything like that, don't want to mess it up in any way, if it will change anything I will leave the processor as is.

No, the CPU will make no difference. Obviously if your old CPU was a bit on the slow side you would see an improvement but there should be no downside at all. Depending on your mobo and also your XP1900 you may be able to simply overclock it to get the same or more than the 2800 you intend to put in, do you know if your 1900 is multiplier locked? What speed DDR do you have? What mobo do you have? All my computers have XP2500 in them with most running as XP3200 and one a bit faster ;)

Thanks Hood. This is an odd CPU I think, it's an XP2800 with a 266 FSB, normally the highest speed processor with that bus speed was a 2400. I bought it for my main computer but it seems to be a problem for it, it gets to the windows load screen with the little moving bar, and then the bar movement freezes. I think it's actually a 333 FSB chip, you never know what you get on Ebay... ANYWAY, the motherboard on my Mach3 lathe has a changeable bus speed, so I thought it might work there, but I have no real reason to use it on that computer though, just buyer's remorse and the human need to upgrade everything....

Look at the code on the CPU, it will be something like AXDA2800DKV4D, the last letter is the important bit for bus speed, B = 200, C=266, D=333 and finally  E=400
 I dont think the 2800 came in anything other than 333 unless its a Barton core in which case it would be a 400 bus.
Putting a 333 or 400 bus CPU in a mobo that has a max of 266 SHOULD  work no problem but the CPU will run at a lower speed as the multiplier would be lower.  I think the freezing is unlikely to be due to the CPU being the wrong bus speed.
