Title: Suitable computer
Post by: jimthefish on March 28, 2016, 12:32:32 PM
Hi everyone, my computer failed so need to replace it. I'm still using the printer port to control the machine. So need to get an old computer, I have a chance of a Dell OptiPlex 170L but not sure if the pulse rate for this computer is suitable. So I guess what I'm asking is there anyone out there running Mach 3 through a Dell OptiPlex 170L with an Intel Pentium 4 (2.8GHz) processor. If no what's a suitable computer.
Cheers

I'm no Mach expert by any stretch Jim so take my advice with caution.  I feel sure that machine should run Mach fine assuming it's healthy.  I've run it on quite a few old machines and as long as they had XP and a PP I never had a problem.  I even ran my little mill for a while on a P4 1.2G with Win 2000 & frankly couldn't tell the difference.

However, I did not have any of them hooked up on the internet or local network and killed everything I could except for Mach.

Good luck! :)

I've heard that there was one specific model of dell that does not work well with Mach3, but I don't know which model.
I use a very old Dell 1Ghz PIII and it runs Mach3 just fine.

I'll say stay away from lonovos.... I've tried two M57's and one M58 and all three caused me timing issues.
