Title: Chinese 3040T problem - no motor movement
Post by: pancakemachine on March 20, 2016, 06:04:00 PM
Hello everyone,

I've run into a problem setting up one of the popular Chinese 3040T machines (on eBay) with Mach 3 - everything seems to be installing and setting up as it should, but I have not yet been able to get any motor movement on the machine. Please see the video I filmed this morning, which documents the set-up from start to finish (with a new Windows XP 32-bit computer):

Can anyone help?

Many thanks in advance,

Samuel

Thank you Bryan and Tweakie for your advice - I have filmed an updated video using a more recent version of Mach 3 in demo mode, and would be very grateful for your comments and advice (the emergency stop switch appears to be working, having been released through twisting, and the parallel port - I think - is linking correctly with Mach 3).

Many thanks in advance!

Excellent new video Samuel.

When everything is powered-up do your stepper motors 'lock' into position or are the free to rotate by hand ?

You also need to check the address of your LPT parallel port (in Device Manager) and make sure that is the Port #1 address you have entered in Mach3 (usually 0378).

Excellent information Woolyacresfarms.

I think Samuel listened to what you said but perhaps, like me, he did not fully understand that the button is locked from within.

Lets hope this cures the problem and that his CNC now leaps into life.

Why the heck would they lock the button from inside the box?

I really can't fathom the way some of this stuff is shipped from these places - you buy a machine, in good faith that it will work out of the box, in the end its a construction project or rewire job. Yes it's a budget item but it should still perform basic functions surely?

The internet is loaded with stories on all of these models - 3040, 6040, 6090, mostly all in a negative light.

I hope the OP gets it going and it seems wollyacresfarms has a decent bit of knowledge there.

HMM.... maybe to keep people who do not read instructions or know what they are doing from hurting themselves....... ???

I think point two is the only good one ;)

In the litigious world we live in, selling a piece of electrical equipment that requires you to delve inside the control box before using it would likely be deemed illegal.

Bear in mind these are hobby machines, industrial stuff would be a different kettle of fish, but then you would likely get instructions in English :)

I have a sneaky feeling that this (safety) bit of plastic is a necessary part to stop the switch internals falling apart when the Chinese assemble it to the front panel of the controller case.
Why waste their time and money removing it when you can leave that for the end user to do (some will believe them when they say it is a safety device).

Hi again all - here's the latest update:

https://youtu.be/nd13k_kXFhI

Having opened the box, there doesn't appear to be anything to remove/release (but not being an expert in such things, perhaps someone will correct me on this).

Thanks again for your advice,

Samuel

That stop button action looks normal to me.

To rule it out just disconnect the wires (power off) and short out and insulate then test it - this will remove the button from the problem.
