Title: My CNC 2030 stops following G codes
Post by: subbzero on March 14, 2016, 10:38:28 AM
Hi
I have CNC 2030 and use it with Mach3 software.
I use Artcam express to design projects.
Sometimes when I load G codes, the machine starts engraving and after a couple of minutes start drilling deep hole and breaks the bit.
Can you help me solve the problem please?
Thanks.

Best regards.

You perhaps need to provide some more detail about the problem and exactly what is happening.

Just some things to checkā€¦

Is your Gcode commanding the move ?
The tool is not tightly gripped in the collet / chuck and moves during use.
The Z axis is loosing steps (stalling) on the upward (+Z) moves.
Loose coupling on the Z axis motor.
Tightness or binding in the Z axis travel.

Thanks.
The reason is Loose coupling on the Z axis motor.
Now I tight bolts every 10 min. of work.
Is there any way so I don't have to tight the bolts that often?

Best regards.

I am pleased that you have found the problem.

Loctite threadlocker (or similar) comes to mind.

Hi.
One more question.
After 4 hours work the motors of my CNC machine get very hot.
Shal I stop to cool them? How hot do they have to get?
Thanks.

Best regards.

Stepper motors are designed / intended to run hot.

Having said that, it is my recommendation that, they should not be allowed to run hotter than say 65 deg.C at the outer casing (You should be able to hold your hand on them for a short time without too much discomfort). If they run hotter than this then check your driver's instructions and reduce the motor's current settings accordingly.

(Please bear in mind that during use the case temperature is considerably less than the internal windings temperature and high quality (branded) steppers are better at handling high temperatures (without causing early failure) than the cheap, unbranded, types).

Thank you very much for your comprehensive answer.
Can you please recommend me high quality stepper motor I can buy?

Best regards.

Probably impossible to list all the high quality manufacturers (assuming I even knew then all  :) ) but a couple of manufacturers that I have experience of using are Sonceboz (Switzerland) and Pacific Scientific (USA).
