Hello,
I am working on converting my table top mill to a 3D printer. I have ran into some problems with the A-axis and would like some help. The mill is running Mach3 and has 3 steppers that are working fine running off of 5056 Micro step drivers.
The A-axis is running off of a Longs-motor DM420A Microstepper driver.

I am running the driver strait from the parallel port.
The problem that I am having is the stepper will only turn in one direction no matter what I try.
I tried hooking it to the leads that are running the other motors and still dose the same thing.
Any help would be appreciated.

Use a voltmeter and check the voltage on the DIRECTION terminal of the drive while alternately jogging in each direction.
One direction will be 0 volts and the other should be around 5 (or possibly 3).
If you see the voltage change as is should, maybe the drive is bad.
Also, copy and rename your .xml file to jpcrazy.xml then use the Reply button and select Additional Options to attach the file and we can see if there are any issues there.

I have checked the direction voltage and it is good. I have also wired one of the other drivers up to the pins I am using for the A- Axis and everything worked fine.
The driver that is being used is a brand new driver.

You might change A Dir to Active Low like the others and try it.
The literature isn't clear (to me) about the polarity settings mentioned.
