Title: z axis not moving after sometime DRO shows that is moving
Post by: Biz on May 14, 2007, 02:16:16 AM
Hi everybody,
yesterday I was working on a program that Graham had helped me with in my last topic and i was drilling-tapping almost 100 holes. After sometime Z motor stopped moving while the DRO was showing that it was...!. I tried to move the axis by the handwheel and it was moving freely as if there was no power to the axis motor.!!!.I closed the power to the board and reopened it and then it worked O.K. for a while but then it did it again! I shut down both the machine and the PC and after 4-5 hours I tried again and it worked O.K.!! Do you think it is a problem of the driver (I use Geckos 202s) or the motor or even the board (I use Sound Logic's Combo PCB) or MACH3?
Your help would be much appreciated!!

I sounds more like a power supply or Gecko problem, have you plenty of air moving around the Gecko's it could be heat related.

Also check for poor connections on the z axis power side.

Graham.

 Hi Graham,
               thanks for the quick reply!!
The Geckos have plenty of "air" and the power connection is good and checked. If it was "air" for geckos I would have the same problem for x and y axis which do more movements than z!!
I wonder if it is a problem of the breakout board? or is the Gecko faulty?
By the way your code worked excellent thank you once again !
 Best regards,

If the motor turns free when you get the fault, it must be a lack of power to the motor.

You could try swapping the x and z gecko and see if the fault moves to the x.

Graham.
