Title: Hi Newbie question
Post by: GaryD on October 30, 2015, 06:02:21 AM
Hi
I am Gary from the Uk i was a Firefighter but i have just been forced to retire after 23 years due to ill health.
I am brand new to Cnc but love it so far.
Please forgive me if my question is very basic but up to now i am still pretty unconfident in using more settings in Mach 3 than i need to.

My question is in When using mach 3 is there a way that i can pause my job during the cutting process shut down Mach 3 and my pc restart the following day and carry on my cnc cutting from the point i stopped it ?

For expample if i was going to cut a job that takes many hours to finish i may need to do this.
Thank you in advance and please forgive me if i have posted in the wrong section ect as i have only just registered with this forum.

From my limited experience Gary, I would avoid this at all costs until you get more experienced. Starting back up from where you left off would inevitably end up with a broken end mill, or worse...................Plan the work in advance, I think you can run simulation which will give you duration of process, work from that.
Hope that helps Gary?

Been using Mach3 for about 8 years now.

I'd avoid this as well. Unless your home switches are absolutely spot on you will almost certainly shift a little on re-homing and turn out a bad job, or at worst you could end up with a busted tool, or a damaged machine.

I concur with bfgstew, plan your day to allow complete cycles.

That said, welcome, and enjoy :)
