Title: 4th Axis
Post by: ducati on July 16, 2015, 04:51:22 PM
I have my new 4th axis on my router
Besides indexing.   Is there a way to use the axis to turn ?
Example... Using 1/2 end mill to traverse my long axis while spinning at
500 rpm..  Then proceed with a indexing type operation?
Without having different profile such as axis swap.
Would changing the general configure from angular accomplish this ?
So far at the midi line I am not getting it done.
A axis motor is a geared ac servo.
Thanks

ducati:

The person to search out is member "simpson36".

He produces a 4th axis that indexes for regular machining,  and also spins at high speed for turning. He also has vids of the operation on youtube.

It is not a trivial problem by any means.
