Good afternoon I have a question i'm sure one of you can help me with. I am building a new cnc mill. It is servo based. Bare in mind all my previous experience is with steppers. I'm using amt102-v encoders. When setting these up in Mach3 how do I go about getting this setup correctly? I have the encoder set to 500ppr. They are connected to kelinginc 850 oz/in servo motors DC, I'm also using the DG4S 8020 sold by cnc4pc.

Any help please?? This problem is really getting frustrating.

The encoder wires to the DRIVE. Mach3 does not close the loop it is closed in the drive.

Thank you. I understand that part. Where I'm having the issues is understanding how the ppt or cpr is used to configure the motor tuning and setup in Mach 3.

if it is a quad encoder and you have 1000 counts then you use 4000 cpr. That does NOT include any gear reduction or screw tpi
CPR * reduction*screw pitch = steps per

I have an amt102-v. I don't know if it is a quad encoder. It says it is a capacitive encoder. I can set the ppr (pulse per revolution) using a dip switch. Right now I have the encoder set to 500 ppr. My servo drives are set to 2x mode. I believe this gives me 1000 cpr.

What is an acceptable servo error, or encoder error.

Hello is there anyone out there??
