Title: question about stepper drivers
Post by: Charlie_M on June 06, 2015, 08:22:12 PM
 Hello everyone,

As the title says I have a question about stepper drivers. At the moment I am using a unipolar stepper driver(hobby cnc pro board) for my cnc router. is there anything to gain by switching to a bipolar driver such as a G540? I have read that bipolar drivers offer the ability to get more torque from the motors is there any thing else?

An 8 wire motor will have more torque when wired bipolar vs unipolar.

But there are many other reasons why the G540 will give better performance.
It's a far Moe advanced drive, with a lot of features to give better performance, like anti resonance and full step morphing. It also allows a higher voltage, which can give more speed.
