Title: total newbie - sorry
Post by: ptonini on June 05, 2015, 07:22:35 PM
Just received my desktop 3040 cnc router.  Connected to parallel port and operating on an XP PC with Mach 3.   X, Y, Z axis are responding properly and roadrunner sample seems to engrave albeit very small (1/2 inch).  Can anyone suggest some simple g-code samples to try on wood?  Hopefully something about 3" x 3".

Thanks,
Paul Tonini

Hi Paul,

There are a few here http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,18345.0.html

(the Roadrunner sample was intended for a machine set-up in Inch units so will turn out small if your set-up is in mm - try putting a G20 into the beginning of the Gcode - that should do the trick).

Thank you so much.  I found the samples and I will try the G20 change.

Can you recommend a book or some reference material for G-code?   I am having some difficulty figuring out how deep a file will cut (and what bit I should be using).

Paul.

Hi Paul,

You may find this link points you in the right direction http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,24580.0.html

(basically all the information you need to know is right here on the forum and in the Mach documentation but searching can be difficult if you are not quite sure what you are looking for).
