Title: Newbie - Need help with motor tuning calculation
Post by: airbrush on May 25, 2015, 11:45:34 AM
Hi,

Well I finally got my DIY machine running. Now onto motor tuning.
Just trying to figure out a value for steps, i'm a little confused as what should be right.

Here are some basic details on the machine:
nema 23 270oz motors, gecko 540
2005 ballscrew
1605 ballscrew
Mach configure units set to inches

help much appreciated.
thx

airbrush,
Need the screw thread pitch...or # threads per inch for the ballscrews.
Need to know how the steppers are connected to the screws. ie ; any gearing / increase / reduction?
Assume you will be microstepping.

So you are aware of it:
Now if you have a look at the Mach Manual you will find examples of how to figure the steps per unit.
Or if you go to members doc's there is info there.
Or if you use the axis calibration feature of Mach it find the steps per unit based on movement.

5mm pitch = 5.08 turns/inch, x 200 steps/rev x 10x microstepping = 10160 steps/inch.
