Hi all
I have a 6 wire motor that I've wired as 4 wire, just left off the 2 spare wires. Yellow and white. (read this somewhere) motor runs fine but I don't think this is right as it has way more power than the same 4 wire motor and runs a lot hotter.
Have I got this wrong?
Thanks Dave

Dave,
Suggest you go to the Gecko site which has excellant information about wiring of steppers.

Looked at the Gecko site but didn't find what I was looking for...
Anyone else??

Have another look at the site as it provides basics for stepper motors.

Thanks, that explains it! I have it wired full winding and full current! That's why it's running so hot and has so much more power...
Does it matter at all which winding we use?

Why should i repeat what is on the Gecko site?
The preformance will be different. You'll get higher rpm's.
Do you have a motor curve for the steppers?
If you know the name and brand look up the info on the motors,
and also note the voltage and current ratings for them. Additionaly if you know or can measure
the inductance you can use the formula's provided on the Gecko site.
