Title: axis rhythmic noise (like a knocking)
Post by: Pat64 on May 24, 2015, 12:34:07 PM
Hi to everybody,
My name is Andrea from Bologna - Italy. I'm using a CNC Syil X6 Linear Plus (2011) and Mach3 version R3.043.066
I write to you for try to solve a problem.
Recently I heard, during the rapid G0 (1500mm/1'), a rythmic noise like a knocking in each axis. It becames very hight if I'm in MDI display, medium intensity in PROGRAM RUN display and disapper if I open OFFSETS window.

I 've read on web about this problem and:
my frequency of pulse is right (24980khz)
Excellent the result of the driver test
WIN 7 on computer dedicated. No internet conection.

Any suggestions will be very appreciated
Many thanks

Andrea

An upgrading
Testing after testing I've found the guilty:
in DIAGNOSTIC screen, if I swicth OFF the TOOLPATH ON/OFF button the noise in each mode PROGRAM RUN and MDI, completely disappears!
Obviously is not the way for solve the problem because you lose the toolpath display.
Awaiting some suggestion
best regards to all.

Andrea

Hi Andrea,

If switching off the toolpath display resolves the problem then I would suggest upgrading your graphics card. Those with 512 MB or 1GB memory have now become cheap enough to obtain without breaking the bank and it should then let you switch on the toolpath display without causing problems.

Thanks Tweakie for your suggestion.
I already use a graphics card with 1Gb memory,
but just yesterday I have found the solution...that's incredible for me to believe!!
The problem of knocking axis it appeared in last period. What I changed?? The monitor!
I changed the monitor from 19" BENQ 1280x1024 to BENQ 19"1440x900.
The different resolution was the problem.
Now I returned at the first 1280x1024 and all is OK ....like before.
If someone is able to explain me the reasons I will be very grateful.
Many thanks
Andrea

I am pleased that you got it sorted.  :)

(I think it is not the monitor, just the resolution you have selected within the graphics card.  ;))

Just a thought... Might the monitor refresh timing be stealing a pulse from the steppers if the two pulses were generated at the same time and a power drop cause the steppers to skip, especially if the parallel port output voltage is marginal?
