Title: CNC will not jog
Post by: bteigrob on April 29, 2015, 04:00:45 PM
OK, so we bought this CNC kit. Came with table, motors, Gecko G540 controller, and trial version of Mach 3. Setup up everything, wired the motors, installed the mach3 and open xml file to connect with Gecko G540 and nothing. The motors hum as if there is something happening and they are locked, but cannot jog the unit with mach 3. Am i missing something with the setup? thanks

Hi bteigrob,

If you are using the parallel port then the most common problem is failure to set the LPT port address.
The Mach3 Manual explains in detail the setting up procedure http://www.machsupport.com/help-learning/product-manuals/

"A usage guide for Mach3Mill/Plasma release 1.84"? is this the guide you are referring to?

Am I looking under Section 4 "Hardware issues and connecting machine tools"?

Any chance that because i am trying to run this on Windows 7 64-bit it will not work?

Tweakie,

Indeed, there is every chance. Mach3 does not support 64-bit operation via the parallel port.
