Title: LazyCam Pro Turn profiles..
Post by: ART on April 18, 2007, 04:29:10 PM
Hi Guys:

Till the video is done, not many know exactly how to do a turning profile.
The rules are that the line, after cleaning must be one chain. And it has a line on the right going up to stock diameter showing its an outside profile, or a line going down to bore size to show
its an inside profile. Here are a couple so you can see what I mean..

Hi, Art, Brian

Using Mach3R2.0.065 hear, Looks like you've been working on Turn and LC in general, Lot's of Fixes noted hear.

Assuming that lots of this code will be used on new LC, hear are a few item's I've found.

Using  AOuterProfile.dxf  posted above,

LC is using the Step Distance Units as Bar Stock size in some fashion, Bigger step distance bigger bar dia.

Also cut order in G-code is mixed up, LC preview looks correct.

Fixes noted,

Able to delete Layers in Project Tab and not lockup LC when re-posting G-code.

Mach3 now treats the X0 y0 last line return to origin with out editing G-code.

Just some Info, Chip

Chip,
Lcam is getting all new posting classes! There are now sections for posting Mill,Lathe,Plasma, and Foam. this is going to fix some of the odd problems that we were having in the past.

Thanks
Brian

Hellon Brian
I have downlaoded the examples you provided, and in looking at them it looks like the Z start position is not at the X center line zero i start my cut's from the end of stock at the center line of the stock.
Also not sure what you mean by the fact i have to tell the program that it's an inside bore versus an outside turn how do i perform this and do i have to provide a line for each pass on the stock?

no the last line in the chain is telling the stock size... so if you draw it down it woudl be in ID out would be an OD

Hi/guy's
Still trying to undrstand this not used to drawing 2 D parts always draw everything in 3D for the mill so i am trying to wrap my head around this LOL.
Why won't the tool start cutting where i draw the start of the line or is it that i have to draw an extra line either on the outside of the billit or the inside to designate either a OD turn or an ID bore.

Hi Dennis:

In Turning, you have to remember your not drawing a toolpath, so the code will not start where you indicate necessarily, your drawing a shape that indicates
to the program the profile shape, and the size of the stock as well as the inside or outside cut decision. The line on the right hand side indicates the stock size if
its an outside cut, and determins the start position from there. The whole idea was to make LCam decide how many passes and where to cut the material from
to get to the final shape. The line on the right is then very important so the program knows to cut from inside out, or from outside in. After generating a profile,
you need to disable the layers with the shape on them before posting the code. This is important otherwise it will try to cut the profile directly.

So general process is to convert the profile, create the end rough and finish, disable the profile layer, then post.

The new program will make this a bit easier as it will disable the profile layers automatically ..

Hi Art
Thanks for the info let me se if i understand this correctly, first i draw the billit size and then draw the profile inside the billit  to the outside or the inside depending on what i want to cut and indicate a line for the tool to come into the billit to cut.

Hi Guy's
I am having a trouble figuring out Lazy cam DXF import i have looked at the examples Art posted above and tried to use them but as i see it the tool starts to the right on the outside profile i am talking about of the billit and then cut's the profile in one pass this can't work to well and i can't seam to get the program to perform multi passes so am i doing something wrong? i know there has been a lot of changes to make Lazy cam work for the lathe so is it me or is it a bug.

Hi, Dennis

Have you changed the settings under step 3 on turn options tab.

Post your DXF, There are still some post problems with the current ver. of LC lathe.

Theres a new LazyCam that will be out soon.

Thanks, Chip

Hi Guys, are you intending to do a Diameter Mode for Mach 3 Turn in Lazycam ?
Thanks, Glen.

Hi Dennis,
LazyCam Pro ( licensed version )  has the Turning functions with roughing cuts. The only problem is that you have to use Mach 3 Turn in Radius Mode or all the arcs create an error in the G Code. You have to convert all dimensions on a drawing to Radius which creates an opportunity for errors when cross referencing with a DRO. Some of my G Codes are compiled from DXFs and Wizards ( threading, etc) , all of which were done in Diameter Mode using BobCad for the DXF part.
I still think it's worth getting the license for LazyCam Pro as the price is much better than most other programs and they've hinted that it could go up as more features are added, plus it's the easiest one to use.
Regards, Glen.

Hi Glen
Thanks for the reply I do have LIC for both LC and Mach 3, Mach 3 is currently running my lathe and I do process my drawing's through Bob cad I have been waiting for the guy's to fix LC to import DXF files and then run through Mach 3 to my lathe so I can eliminate a few of the steps to get the job done.
