Title: Lathe wear comp
Post by: fast89 on October 25, 2014, 03:18:39 PM
Ok,
I've had this clausing lathe running for a year and a half now. It's probably made 30,000 parts. Once in a while though, it makes me scratch my head.... Really sctrach my head. Every so often when I add something into wear comp it seems like it removes it after making the part. So I have to add more the next part. This will go on part after part. Today it took almost twenty parts until it settled down.  I had to add .001" on  every part until I got up to .020" in comp. Then it held it.  Now I don't think it is a mechanical problem as non of the other tools in the turret changed size. Just this internal  threading tool. I think I had a compensation direction of 2 on the tool, although I think it should have been 6. I never use g41/g42 on this lathe, just wear comp and the dro changes based on what I put in. It works well most of the time. Anyone ever seen anything like this?

Never had that issue. You should see right away whether it is working as the X DRO will change values as soon as you enter the offset. If that is happening then it sounds more like a mechanical issue to be honest.

One other thing is 066 version (the lockdown) has issues with Turn, one of them is wear offsets, it only adds half the val;ue if you are in Dia mode. Personally I recommend an older version.

yes, it changes the dro right away.  I'll try to explain this, when I add say .001" in comp and run the part again. Its right where I want. Then the next part will be .001 small. I'll add it again and it will be right there. Then the next part will be .001 small. And this will keep going for 10-20 parts. If it was mechanical, I should see it on other tools. It is a vertical turret just like a commercial lathe. I'll have to check which version I'm using, I cannot remember.

Ok, next time you offset the tool have a look at machine coords, when you run the part again and it comes to that tool, again have a look at machine coords and see if they are the same or if they have reverted to the previous pre wear offset value. Putting a M1 in your code at the appropriate point will make it easier for you to do tat ceck.
