Hi All,
First of this might seem a daft question but I just can't get my head round it.
I'm trying to re-fit my Chinese router with Mach 3 as controller. The machine has Rack and pinion X and Y axes with 20 tooth pinion (I believe Mod 1.25) driven by 5:1 reduction and 1600 micro-steps per rev motors. The existing controller (NcStudio >:() is set up to 0.01042mm/step. This suggests that steps per mm are 1/0.01042 which is 95.9692898273
Surely I cant set this figure in "Steps Per" in the motor tuning screen.
What am I missing?
Many thanks,
Bob.

I don't think you are missing anything, not checked your calcs but if that is the number you come up with just enter it. I think Mach allows up to 8 decimals in motor tuning, should get you close enough with such a setup :)

Thanks Hood, I'll give it a try, just don't understand how the system can send anything other than a whole number of steps.
Ah................ just worked out 96 steps would equate to 1.0006327978 mm I think I can accept that degree of error. ;)

It can't, it just gets as close as it can. It will however keep track of all decimals so will never be further out than one step.

All clear now, thanks
