Title: backlash compensation in CAM
Post by: jonny quest on September 29, 2014, 11:35:15 AM
When I mill parts in Newfangled wizards they machine beautifully.

When I mill using my CAM package (Madcam) my 2d cuts are slightly rough.

I just had a thought. .. I'm using backlash compensation. .. is that not showing in my CAM post?

CAM is not in any way involved in backlash compensation.  That is handled entirely by Mach3.

This is most likely a machining strategy issue. Are you using a roughing cut/finishing cut? Are you using the correct feeds/speeds? Are you using the correct type of bit? Are you using a material that can be easily machined?

^^ yes all of the above.  I think madcam uses lines instead of arcs. It cuts awesome in the newfangled wizard... have to check my settings in Rhino and Madcam
