Hello,
Actually I want to build an all in one box for my CNC Router. I have no idea what motherboard would be appropriate to run Mach3 other than I need a parallel port.
I'd appreciate some suggestions on purchasing mom board and at this point I want the smallest one I can find to support my Mach3 CNC Router.
Thanks,
Lee

Probably an Intel Atom based board.

Thanks for your thoughts Gerry. Will see what ebay has on it.

For example:
* ASRock D1800M, Intel J1800 2.41GHz, VGA, 2xDDR3, PCI-Ex16, SATA2, 1xPCI, VGA/DVI/HDMI/USB3.0, mATX
* ASRock Q1900M, Intel J1900 2.0GHz, VGA, 2xDDR3, PCI-Ex16, SATA2, 1xPCI, VGA/DVI/HDMI/USB3.0, mATX
* GIGABYTE GA-J1800N-D2H, Intel Celeron Dual-Core J1800 2.41GHz, VGA, 2xSO-DIMM DDR3, 1xPCI, SATA2, VGA/HDMI/USB3.0, mini-ITX
* GIGABYTE GA-J1800N-D2P, Intel Celeron Dual-Core J1800 2.41GHz, VGA, 2xDDR3, 1xPCI, SATA2, VGA/HDMI/parallel/USB3.0, mini-ITX
* GIGABYTE GA-J1900N-D3V, Intel Celeron Quad-Core J1900 2.0GHz, VGA, 2xDDR3, 1xPCI/1xmini PCI-Ex, SATA2, VGA/DVI/serial/USB3.0, mini-ITX
All these boards are CPU-On-Board type and fanless

Excellent, now I can pursue this with some solid information.

Hi,
I bought a single board computer mini ITX size (6 inch square roughly) with a dual core ATOM processor, 4G DDR ram and 64 G SSD. Installed Windows 7 Embedded.
I am delighted with the results. The Atom doesn't have a great deal of horsepower but run Mach3 a treat. The board has 1 PP plus the usual selection of USB,CO,COM,HDMI etc. Also has a spare PCI slot and I fitted an extra PP.
I chose a Taiwanese board by UNIGENS on the basis of local (New Zealand) availability and price. Advantech and others have some excellent offerings in the same vein, just search for 'industrial single board computer' and you will be flooded. A lot of them use top quality components for industrial reliability. The wee Atom runs without a fan and off a single 5A 12V supply or a standard computer supply if you have a spare one.
Happy hunting
