Title: Variable axis
Post by: nzlowie on August 07, 2014, 09:37:17 AM
Hi guys

I'm play with building a cnc quilter for the wife... (As we do!) the trouble home quilters have is that domestic sewing machines only gave a short throat, this is the distance between the needle and frame. This distance limits the area that can be quilted. My thought is to have the x axis (or y) turn a roller that holds the quilt as it's being quilted. Trouble is the circumference changes as the x axis travels, does anyone have ideas on how I could deal with this? Maybe an encoder measuring fabric movement not roll rotation?

Am I taking on something beyond me?? Should I just stick with my x y table and work around its limited work area..

Thanks Dave
