Title: Using Corel Draw

Hi Guys,

I am about to start engraving logos and text on metal, and do my designs in CorelDraw X6.

The designs are pretty basic and only need to be cut to a single depth.

What is the best way to get the data from Corel to Mach3?

Unfortunaley, Corel Draw is one of those application you either love or hate and I come down on the hate side.

You could export the Corel Draw HPGL print file then load it into LazyCam (comes free with Mach3) configure your cut depth then create the GCode file for Mach3 but it is a lot of messing about and the results may not be excellent (a lot depends on your file size).

Personally I would look for another CAD/CAM (many to choose from, some free – some expensive) which is easy to use and will create the necessary GCode via it’s own post processor (I now use Vectric Aspire - it has taken me a long while to save up for but it was, in my opinion, well worth the wait).

If you plan on exporting to a CAM program, you might want to try the .dxf tools, which gives a much better output for CNC use.

After exporting the .dxf's, any CAM program will work. Cut 2D, Sheetcam, CamBam,...

Or, you could try the DragonCNC beta, which exports your g-code from within Corel.

dowload the sheetcam trial

export as .hpgl - have a play with exporting as .dxf too,but you will have to hairline them and export as an earlier autocad version = hassle

layer 1 = pen1

post processor - change from the 1st = AB tube cutter to mach

when you set up the table....  when you home your machine, simply set the material in sheetcam 10mm away from the home of x and y 'the table' - don't run soft limits.

anyways, if you do choose this route, can you write some brains or whatgamacaulics so you can simply click a mach button on the corel tool bar and the g-code simply appears in a new mach screen ready to go. - :? its really tiresome exporting from corel, then running the same post processing for a similar pre-set set up..
