hi
I have one old machine Voest Alpine model WNC500
Machine is turning centre, with milling online
Can I use mach for this machine?
-
I am sure you could use Mach3 - Hood is the man who can explain just how much work would be involved.
Tweakie.

I'm not sure just how capable Mach3 is in terms of live tooling, as I can't remember ever seeing a lathe with live tools running on Mach3.
I know Mach 4 turn will be capable of it, however that's going to be at least another few months before it's even remotely ready.

As of now machine is not working. What is the scope of making it working again using mach? I mean if not online, can it be modified for offline?

That made me smile.

It may be possible but it all depends on how the live tools are controlled.

:)
I'd call it pessimistic optimism

Can you please explain me about live tools? Is it possible from mach?

How are the live tools controlled? Is the speed controllable and if it is what signal do they expect?

I can't remember ever seeing a lathe with live tools running on Mach3.
As an example of using live tooling on the lathe, for small stuff here, i have used used high speed air driven tools to do some
things. Used A axis such that lathe spindle could be indexed, post stock machined in conventional manor, live drill used to put holes in face and around perimiter using a drilling macro. Live tools were held via special carraige attachment thus code defines movement. Another wierd use was
slaving Z to A and thus could mill spirals around the stock for inlaying. So some basic milling and drilling could very accurately be done with the machined stock still mounted. Nothing fancy but it works thus eliminates resetup on the mill.
FWIW,
Mach 4 lathe has some advanced features envisioned for the future. When ?......in the future. :)....what more can i say. ;)
