I had Jeff @Soigeneris update my control box from USB to Ethernet as I kept getting an error for the smooth steppers and I could not get it fixed.
I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH JEFF, I'd just rather not bother him as its the weekend.
I'm getting this error msg....mpv has invalid port and pin settings for the A input. port=3, pin-1
When looking at the ports and pins it does in fact say that for both the in and out. I know thats not right but I have no idea what should it be ?
Estop is port-1, pin-14 fwiw
Thanks

Is port 3 set for pins 1-9 as Inputs? If not then you will likely get that message as 1-9 are Outputs by default. You can check by looking at the Config, from Plugin Control menu.

Thank you.
Arn't those for servo motor drives ? I'm not using them so I'm pretty sure I don't need them. I turned them off.
Now I get a PWM error. I've tried to change it but it seems to make no difference.
-
First thing, when you say MPV are you actually meaning MPG? If not what does MPV stand for?

Should have been MPG, I have fat fingers. :(
-
Ok a MPG is a Manual Pulse Generator, it is used for moving the axes manually.
If you do not have one connected then go to Config menu then Ports and Pins then Encoder/MPG page and disable the MPG.

Yes Sir, as I said above, I turned them off.
I now have a PWM error.
It was always there I just didn't ask about it at the time so I didn't muddy the waters.
-
Ah ok thought you meant that turning off the MPG made the PWM error appear.
PWM is a spindle error, how is your spindle set up? What kind of spindle controller are you using?

Sorry about the confusion. Its a TAIG mill
Here is a pic of the spindle page. When I press F5 I get the error msg, PWM

In spindle set up, uncheck PWM, and check step/dir motor, apply, ok. That is how mine is set up. Mine is a Sherline with Homanns speed controller. It will either work or it wont. If it doesnt, change it back and wait for Jeff.
-
It will depend on the actual spindle controller that you are using as to what the settings will be. Do you know what controller you have?

This is the controller, http://www.soigeneris.com/stdr_4c-details.aspx
Unchecking PWM made no difference, I did that yesterday. Thanks though
-
But did you check step/ dir motor?
-
But did you check step/ dir motor?
Sure did.
-
The spindle still didn't run when I did that and I didn't get any error msg. Who knows.
-
Have you run this machine before? Or is this the first time ? Experience with Mach?
-
I had run this machine, with USB for the smooth steppers. I kept getting communication errors with the USB so Jeff suggested going to the ethernet. I shipped him my box and he did the update.
Not a lot of experience to be honest.
I'm sure its something simple I'm missing.
-
Would seem your box contains the Gecko G540, have a read of the manual for it to see how to set up the spindle.

I asked that due to the fact when I got my first mill running. I didn't know what MDI was or how to use it. I had no hot keys assigned (didn't know what they were yet). It wast til someone gave me the GCode for a short movement that made my machine move. Just making sure you knew how to use an M3 command.
-
What kind of communication errors did you get? Watchdog errors? I noticed during a tool measuring session yesterday, that mine will continue traveling after the key has been pressed. I was able to repeat it a few times. That sucks. Nothing will stop it except the EStop. I thought a key on my keyboard was stuck. Odd.
-
I'm not getting any at the moment but it ain't moving either.
I got ahold of Jeff today, he's going to remote into my comp and find out what I didn't do that I should have. I'll make sure and report back so someone searching might find an answer. lol
Thanks for the help guys

Here's what happened, from the beginning.
I sent my controller off to Jeff @Soigeneris to get rid of the USB set up and switch to Ethernet. I had random USB errors and I could not solve it at all after trying everything that was suggested. Really started to bring the suck when it would pop up in the middle of a run.
So Jeff sent the box back to me, I installed all the software and hooked it up. Turned it on and nothing. Nada, zilch, zippo. Crap For me, this is a big deal, I am computer challenged to put it mildly. I started this thread incase it was something I wasn't getting. It wasn't.
Jeff called me yesterday and remote'd in to my comp and spent a lot of time going through everything. Nothing. Then he asked my about the lights on the back of the control box. I'm like , what lights ? crap, I need a fuse.
I managed to find a 7a pico fuse here in town. I bought 10 of them @ .99 ea. Got home, went through 4 fuses, every time it blew it was at a different point in assembly. In the end I checked every wire and every connection and never did really find anything. There were a couple a ground and a hot that I thought were looser than they should have been. Paid them some extra time to them and boy howdy, I'm back in business.
Thanks again to Jeff for the help and to those on here that tried to help me as well.
Cliffs; Loose wire popped 7a pico fuse.
Never found loose connection
Not popping anymore fuses
All good in the hood.

Good you got it sorted.
