Title: Diagnostic Screen Confusion
Post by: kolias on January 12, 2014, 12:56:05 PM
I try to solve why my limits do not work properly and I would like to know what the lights on the diagnostic screen mean.

All my limits except the home switches are connected to one pin. When I push any limit the following lights come ON on the diagnostic screen
Under EjogY+ M1 and M3
Under EjogZ+ M1,M2,M3
To me the EjogY+ should not light up because I don’t push any limit on the Y axis but perhaps it is not important and that is what I would like to know

When I push the Y Home, the following lights cone ON on the diagnostic screen
Under EjogY, M2
Under EjogA, M2

When I push the A Home, the following lights cone ON on the diagnostic screen
Under EjogY, M4

Do the above indicate a problem with my wiring?

You have something screwed up, if  you have all limits in series then pressing 1 should light all the limit switch LEDs, ie M1, M2, M3 and M4 ++Limit and -- Limit. Your Homes should only light up the home LEDs.

You must have the external jogs in ports and pins set to the same ones as you have the limits/homes set to.

Your are right Hood I got something screwed up but I have checked everything I can and I can't see anything wrong. Limits wiring is simple, they all are in series and go to one pin with shielded cable. Home Y & A also simple one shielded cable each going to a different pin. All cable shield grounds are attached at the panel end to earth ground

I have attached my XML, can you please have a look to see if you can spot an error?

I also attach my schematic for the limits

Thank you

Sorry, I forgot to say that I dont have any external jogs in ports and pins set to any pins and they are not enabled anyway

xml looks ok
What does the frequency on diagnostics say?
Might be worthwhile setting up a new xml.

The frequency on the diagnostic screen is 25250 and it varies +/- about 100. I will delete the XML and re configure

Thank you

Sorry Hood but I'm going from bad to worst, lol. Deleted the XML, re installed Mach3 and re configure all parameters as before including the motors / tuning etc. axes are enabled but now the motors do not move kith the keyboard arrows (DRO's are moving) but I hear that I do have power to the motors when I turn the power to the drives.

E-Stop and Limits are working (when I push them manually) unfortunately same as before, frequency on diagnostic screen is again about 25K, and have no lights ON in the diagnostic screen. Power light on the BOB is ON

What did I forget?

My new XML is attached

The cable shields are touching each other inside my control panel and eventually they end to earth ground. Does it matter that they are touching each other?

Dont see anything wrong with your xml and no the screening should not be a problem.

Thanks Hood but just got it working now. Don’t know if it matters but there is a dip switch on the BOB which controls the COM to either be +5V or GND. I switched that to GND, re started all and nothing then put it back to +5V restarted and now all works well including the limits. But I did put a 0.4mF capacitor on the limits and the probe.

But still have two hick ups. The most serious is that when I home the Y / A axes the gantry goes away from the home position. If I click on the reverse tick on the home/limits screen then my keyboard arrows are reversed and don’t like that because it gets confusing. Perhaps I can change on Y / A the active low tick from green now to red?

Also with the probe as soon as I touch the alligator clip to the bit I get the message "limit switch is triggered"

If you have any tips please let me know otherwise I will keep trying

To change the homing direction you choose Home Negative or not.

regarding the probe, sounds like either you have it connected to a wrong input, ie a limit or e-stop, or you have noise.

Got the homing direction ok, thanks Hood, and now from diagnostic screen when I click the X or Z to home nothing moves. The X and Z move nicely with the keyboard and the rest all working fine. Only he green light comes ON when I click to home X or Z. I attach my homing limits screen in case you can see something

Any idea why I cant home them two?
