Title: Minimum PC hardware required?
Post by: boblon on March 05, 2007, 07:22:54 PM
Maybe I'm blind, but I'm having a hard time finding somewhere on the site that discusses minimum PC requirements for running Mach2/3. Can anybody enlighten me? I plan on generating the files on my desktop and copying them over to the PC in the shop. It's the PC in the shop pumping out G-Code to the controller that I'd like to know what I can get away with. Such as anything faster than a 500Mhz Pentium or something like that would be helpfull.

Thanks,
BobL.

Hello BobL,

I believe the Mach 3 manual states that a minimum 1Ghz machine is recommended if you are running the Kernel speed at 25k.  I think you may need a faster machine for a higher kernel speed (35k or 45k).  I believe there are more specific specs in the manual for ram etc.

I would recommend 1.3 gig or more for a processor, at least 512 of ram. You can get by with less but that level of hardware is so cheap now days. Xp is a memory hog and 256 just doesn't quite cut it.
