Title: Running Mill Wizard
Post by: MrWilson on November 02, 2013, 11:35:13 AM
Hey,
I don't have Mill Wizard as of yet,
Just wanting to ask a couple of questions before buying.
I do have Mach3 up and running my wood router under windows XP,
Microsoft said they will no longer support Xp after this year,
1.) should we all move to the newer version of windows?
I do all my layouts, design, copy ect on another computer running Xp
I also have 2010 screen set on it to check programs before downloading to router computer,
Question is (2.) do a lot of you guys load Mill Wizard on your router computer and use it while you are cutting?
I am building a smaller cnc wood router now 28"x56" Z6" at the point of choosing a controller.
 (3) any suggestion on how to setup computer to load only Mach3
without Windows booting up first or using windows at all( not linux) is it necessary for mach to use Xp OS
any infor would be great from y'all

I am sticking with XP for as long as I can, I dislike W7, its just way too slow in comparison and I detest W8.
The only thing that will force me to move from XP is if I have to get a new motherboard and I cant get drivers for it, some are that way now sadly :(

You can do either with the mill wizards, you can even have them installed on 2 computers. So for example you could have the licensed version on your machines computer and the unlicensed on your desktop. You could then do the work on the desktop and save as a job file and transfer that to the machine computer and get the code from the job file. That would mean if you find you need to change something while at the machine you can.

I would advise against using any  programme whilst your machine is running, especially if using the parallel port.

You need one of supported Windows versions for Mach3. You can however have Mach start up automatically when windows opens, I do that on my machines. Its as simple as dragging the shortcut for your profile to the startup folder in Windows.

Guys W2000 and XP will WORK just as well in 10 years as it does today.

Just a thought, (;-) TP

Yes, as I said Terry, as long as I can get drivers for a new mobo I will use XP. Sadly even now mobos are coming out with no drivers for XP, possibly the W7 32 bit drivers will work but who knows.
