I have been having problems with my set up for several months.
When I open Mach and start the program, I have to go into the ports and pins configuration page and change the address for the second LPT port.
I just change the last number to anything. Then save the settings. Close the page. Reopen the page. Change the address back to the original address. Save it again
and guess what everything works!!. If I don't do the above steps, everything connected to the port 2 does not work.
I usually just leave the computer running, but sometimes it gets powered off.
I upgraded to the latest release. Did not help.
any ideas where to start?

Something else. For the past month or so when Mach starts, sometimes it just freezes. I would have have to power the computer down and restart the computer.
Tonight when I tried to flame cut, the screen locked up and I restarted the computer. After that I could not get Mach to start. When I would start the flame cutter profile, it would get to a white screen with the Mach logo and freeze.
I could start some of the generic profiles that came with Mach, and they loaded fine.
Thanks for looking

Ok first thing to do is set your kernel to 45KHz, you have it at 100KHz and the fastest axis you have only requires 37.5KHz

I have kept lowering and lowering my speed trying to keep the machine from cogging when more than 2 axis move in auto.

Are you referring to Kernel when you say speed?
Hood

Hood-
No I have been reducing the overall IPM of the motors on the Motor tuning page.
I have tried to turn Mach on using this profile so that I can change the Kernel speed, and I cant get it to go past the start up screen. It just freezes.

Ok paste this xml into your Mach folder and use the loader to open Mach with it.

That cured the running bad, and the freezing when it starts up. I am going to leave the IPM set low until I get a few jobs finished. After that I will try it back at 200 IPM and see what happens.
Did you see anything in my XML file that might keep the port 2 LPT address from saving?
I can deal with it if you cant find anything.
Thanks for fixing the freezing problems

What is your port address.

Hood
port 1 is 0x378
port 2 is 0xdd90
Thanks

Dont see any problems with the xml as the address is sticking so not sure why you always have to re-enter :(

Do you think it could be a hardware issue?
-
It could be but if software I am thinking it more likely that it is windows side of things rather than the Mach driver. Maybe check there are no printers set up to use that port in windows.

Not sure if this helps but I am having the exact same issue with my system running XP. The computer sees the port configured but Mach3 will not save it. I can change the address in Mach3 and then back again and it works until I reboot the PC.
I now enough about computers to be dangerous. Could it be related to how XP handles IRQ or DMA settings. I have never seen this discussed in the forums.

I had similar problem with Mach not saving the pp address. Was when i just got the new computer.
If i recall, been a few years, i uninstalled the card and reinstalled it and had to do that maybe 2 times before Mach finaly saved the address.
FWIW,

Rich,
Seems the consensus to remove and re-install. I'll give that a shot and see if it works.
Thanks !

No Joy on the card re-install. Did it multiple times. Even used drivers from the manufacturer. MACH3 just doesnt want to keep communicating with the card after the PC is restarted. I plan on purchasing a new card that others have had success with. Syba PCI PP card, #SP-LP-MCS1P
