Title: art code error
Post by: tigerpaw on August 12, 2013, 09:55:14 AM
came up after I had just carved a piece and went to shut  down Mach3, before I actually turned the switch off on the controller.  The Art error showed up and asked
me if I want ed to try to recover...I clicked yes, but nothing happened.  I finally shut computer down and then rebooted computer and Mach3.  Mach3 came up but this
time but before it would come to the regular screen it talked about the warnings of working with a cnc machine and click Yes if I agreed and No if I wanted to stop now
type of message.  I had never seen that before, but of course agreed to continue.  It took me to the normal Mach3 screen but after I turned on the controller box and hit
the Reset button, nothing moved when I tried to operate the router X, Y or Z movements!  I have a big job to do for a customer and need help ASAP!  Thanks!  Will reloading Mach3
fix this possibly?

any help on steps to do that would be greatly appreciated...thought I could find online but confused exactly what the XML file is...would be
considered computer illiterate by anyone who isn't.  lol Thanks.

Your xml file will have the name of your profile on it, profile name is at bottom right of the main panel in mach, for example mine is frankenstein, you then look in your mach 3 folder for a file with that name and an xml extension, in my case frankenstein.xml .  change its name to something else like frankenstein.xml.bak .just in case you need to revert, now look in same folder for another folder named xmlbackups, in there find a file with your profile name and a date when you knew the machine worked, copy that file and put it in the mach3 folder, change its extension to .xml and away you go.

sorry for the long response.

I found a backup file when I knew it was working properly, and clicked on "copy"...but where do I paste it...what folder in Mach3 do I paste it into?  Thanks!

other than the backup files, I couldn't find any profile file that had XML after it...but I did find the profile file G540 Nema 23 2012-08-03   all of the files under
just showed that file name with m1s after it

your xml will be in the mach 3 folder, thats where you copy the backup to, on my system I installed to the default location so its in c:\Mach3

John, do your files have .xml after them, because mine do not...I did as you said and replaced the profile file
with a date that I knew worked...that file was in the XML backups location, but they did not have .xml after them...
they have .xb42, .xb43 etc. after them...so I copied one that worked and pasted it onto the desktop, then dragged it into the profile folder in Mach3...
then I changed it to read G540 Nema 23 2012-08-03.xml...then rebooted Mach3 and turned controller on but cannot get anything to move, X, Y or Z
nothing...I can hear the stepper motors running, but normally when I'd turn the controller on, I could hear a little jump sound where the router jerked
a little from the slight stepper movement...I don't hear that sound now because of the lack of communication of the software with the controller because of the
crazy ART error...it's funny that the error occurred after I had just completed a 12 hour project which came out perfectly...then when I shut down Mach3 the error came up...
normally I shut off the controller first before I shut Mach3 down...this time I did it the opposite way, shutting down Mach3 before turning off the controller, but doubt that was the reason
for the ART error

should I try to rename the profile file back to the name it was in the XMLbackups file...which was G540 Nema 23 2012-08-03.xb43?

Thanks!  I got that fixed...now the Y axis is out of whack, why I don't know...so I brought the x, y and z back to the zero point and zeroed them out, then went to shut down Mach3 and a box
came up called Fixtures Change

it asks Fixtures Saved?...Yes or No...not sure which to answer?  Thanks for any possible help here.
