Title: Machine is cutting faster than it is told to..
Post by: Mountaincraft on June 15, 2013, 03:52:32 PM
Installed a new computer... Reinstalled Mach3, V Carve Pro, etc...

Resurfacing a table Jig....

Machine is jogging at 850-900 IPS, when set to 600 IPS in the motor tunings page...

Machine is cutting at 524 IPS when the VCP file says 350IPS... G Code says 350 IPS..
Feedrate is set to 100%...

Dimensionally, the machine is doing what it is told to...  just the feedrate is increased by 50%

Not a big deal for resurfacing as I'm only cutting a few thousandths, but I don't want to run any projects with it like this...

Any ideas what might cause this?
 ???

jog speed set to 100%
spindle speed is running as it is told to..

Only feedrate appears to be affected...

It will be IPM rather than IPS but anyway thats not the issue.
If you attach your xml and the code I will see if it runs ok here.

Yeah, I meant IPM....  Too many acronyms these days... ;D

Here is the xml and the G Code file...

Thanks,

Seems to be working fine here.
Can you load the standard screenset and see if the Feed DRO reads correctly in it.
Also have a look on the diagnostics page and see what the frequency is reading.

I'd have to reinstall the app to get back to the standard screen set..

Frequency is reading 28040

sorry, I was wrong, loading the standard screen is actually very easy.. hold on...

yeah, operates the same as the custom screenset..

Here's the deal.. After quitting Mach and then reloading it, jog speeds changed to 672, which is 112% of what it is set to.. 112% of 25k is 28k.. what the frequency is reading...  After running the surfacing file again, it is now running at 392, exactly 112% of 350IPM...

I remember when I first ran the driver test, the pulse frequency was reading at about 36-37k, which is about 150% of the desired speed.. then it settled down to 27-28k...

So, obviously this is a kernel speed issue....  How do I get it to settle down and run at 25k?

Try setting the kernel to 35KHz and restart Mach and see if that helps.

How is that done?

Config menu then Ports and Pins, you will see all the kernel frequency choices.
It is usually best to not use more than you require but in your case you may find that 35KHz works better for your particular computer.

Okay, did it...  and the rapid speeds are now at 602...
I imagine the cut speed will now be right too...

I'll let you know if not..

Thanks for your help, It's been a fun couple of weeks..   ;)

I've still got a lot of stuff to find and copy over yet (all my fonts, my dxf clip art, etc.)
And then there's the 2 months worth of work I lost, and now have to rebuild all those files...

Gonna get the other computer working and all set up, and then I'll have a backup...
Thinking I might budget for a backup BOB and a spare gecko drive too...
This wasn't fun...
