Title: Need lots of help!! Nothing is working....
Post by: peterm on February 19, 2013, 01:38:46 PM
I bought a CNC kit a while ago with a Chinese controller. Thanks to this great forum and the help of some awesome members I was able to get everything set to go.
E-stop worked, limit switches and homing along with everything else. I never got to use the machine though. Unfortunately the "high quality" chinese controller burned out and that was the end of that. BTW, I was running mach3 through Smoothstepper and it worked fine.
Now I decided to upgrade to a Gecko G540 since it seems to be pretty good and I needed one anyway.

Well, I followed the instructions but nothing works. If I use the old smoothstepper profile almost everything works but the steps and acceleration are way off and if I load any G-Code it loads WAYYYY off the table and the coordinates are way off.

I finally have the time to get some projects done but this thing is not complying...

At this point I'd be willing to pay to get this problem solved. If anyone can lend a hand I'd be eternally grateful.

Compare all of your settings in both profiles.  Also, attach both profiles and I'll have a look.

On the diagnostics page do you have a frequency showing?

Sorry Peter, I did get started on looking at them and had to pull off.  You don't have much set up in your Gecko profile. The steps per in motor tuneing doesnt seem right in either one of them.  How did you arrive at those numbers?  I think if you go through your settings in the profile that works and then make the one that doesnt work match, you will be good to go, at least a lot closer.  Take some screen shots of the one that works or a pen and paper and write them all down.  If you can get another pc (laptop) beside your machine pc, put Mach on both and set up your new profile as you scroll through your old.  I have sent you a personal message.

You can also use this bang up xml reader to compare XMLs.  Klauss did a great job on this.

As hinted at earlier when I asked about the frequency, I think you have the parallel port set as the control device for your Gecko profile, if you go to Fuction Configs menu and choose reset device select then restart Mach. You will get a list when you start Mach, choose the Smoothstepper from the list, that should get things moving.
