Title: 4th Axis calculate steps ?
Post by: Vortex on February 09, 2013, 12:09:18 PM
Hello together.

Can someone help me?  I purchased a 4th axis for my mill. Now I have to set the steps in Motortuning.

I got a ratio 1/8 because I have two pulleys on it. One with 12 teeth on the Stepmotor and one on the spindle with 72 teeth.

How do I calculate the steps ??

Thank You

Regards

Is that what you need?

you have 1/6 ratio if its 12 and 72 pulleys, you also need to know if its a 1.8 degree  stepper you have and also what the microstepping is set to, maybe that is what you were meaning by the 1/8?

Hello Brett..Hello Hood.

Ok let´s start again ...the values I posted are not correct. I was going by description of the 4.th Axis. But the pulleys are different.

Ok Restart. One pulley got 17 teeth and the pulley on the spindle got 127 teeth. I counted by myself this morning  ;D

OK my calculation was this diameter of the big pulley 82,19mm dia from the small pulley 11,00

If my calculation is correct , we got a ratio of 7.47 . Is this right ?
Now  200*8*7,47 /360=33,2

Is this correct ?

Now my question is , The value of 33,2, is this the value to set in the A-Axis Motortuning as Steps ????  But this are degrees or not and in the Stepsfolder Mach requires mm ...or not?

Thank you

Regards

You dont need bother working out the diameter of the pulley as all you need to do is divide the teeth on big by teeth on small, much easier :)

Ok your calcs are correct and yes it is degrees in motor tuning if you have the axis set as a rotational. It says Steps per unit and in this case a Unit is degrees.

It is likely set that way as that is default but its on General Config page on the left hand side.
