Title: ball screw question
Post by: skylane on February 06, 2013, 11:10:22 PM
Hi, I am building a new cnc with mach, I am using a ball screw on the Z axis, what is the procedure to determine a start point setting for
the steps in motor control screen, I have set them with regular acme lead screws but ball screws are new to me, the one I am using is 12mm.
Thank you
Terry

Its exactly the same, a ballscrew has a pitch just like an acme, ie so many mm per rev or so many turns per inch. The 12mm you quote is likely the diameter, that is of no relevance to the steps per unit, you need to know what the pitch is.

Thank you for the reply Hood, I have not recieved the ball screw yet, but it listed as a 1204-4 so I am assuming the pitch would be 4mm.

Yes that sounds like what the 4 will be.
