Take a look at the SmoothStepper configuration screen. You will see a setting to change the direction of pins 2-9 to Input or Output. The default in Input. Just change it to output and you'll be all set.

Plugin Control menu then ESS PLugin Config then change the options for whichever ports you want 2-9 to be outputs, they are Inputs as default, see pic.

Probably because you don't have the EStop input set up correctly. What sort of drives are you using, what kind of breakout board, etc? Can you attach your XML profile?

ops its cos i didnt have the db25 plugged in.

now my atc which is connected via port 2 on the smoothstepper uses pins 2, 3, 4, 5, 14 and 16

so am i going to need to tweak the wiring for the atc?

If you configure port 2 to have pins 2-9 as outputs then that will mean you have 1-9, 14 16 and 17 as outputs. If the  pins you mentioned above are all outputs then no need to alter any wiring.

Sounds like your spindle relays or VFD may be causing noise and tripping the E-Stop. Try putting some filtering in the SS config for the E-Stop, maybe 2 or 3 and see if it helps.

could you explain further about "putting filtering in the SS config"?

thanks

Plugin Control menu the ESS Config and enter a value in the filtering box for E-Stop, may even need some in the ther ones as well. Basically it is similar to setting a Debounce Interval in Mach except you have a wee bit more control as you can apply to seperate functions. One thing to note however is in the ESS/USSthe filtering is much more sensitive, where you may have 100 or even 2000 in Machs Debounce Interval the ESS should be low, no more than 10 I would say.
